How Do You Determine
Which Type of Bulb To Choose?
Choosing the correct bulb for your chandelier can be tricky. Bulb choice affects how the room feels; if your chandelier has incorrect bulbs, the lighting effect of your chandelier will be less than desirable. Not only should the correct fitting size, lumen output, and wattage be chosen, it is advisable to understand the different bulb types as well. We’ll walk you through the different options of bulbs, including their strengths and weaknesses, so you can choose the right lighting for your environment.
1. Incandescent Light Bulbs
Incandescent light bulbs are the most affordable to purchase. Clear incandescent bulbs create a beautiful light that works well with traditional crystal chandeliers. However, they are not energy efficient and do not last very long.
2. Halogen Bulbs
Halogen bulbs, which are essentially incandescent bulbs, are more expensive and may last a little longer, but careful handling is essential. Oils from our hands can cause the bulb to expire quickly. Halogens are nice on modern crystal chandeliers and are slightly more efficient than halogen bulbs.
3. Compact Fluorescent Bulbs
Compact Fluorescent Bulbs are not as common and not typically recommended for chandeliers. Especially where the bulb can be seen. Although they are more efficient than halogen or incandescent bulbs, they can look bulky or oddly shaped.
4. LED Replacement Bulbs
LED replacement bulbs are expensive but use 1/6th of the energy per lumen as an incandescent bulb. If you have a large chandelier containing many bulbs, LED should be considered. However, many believe the LED bulb does not work well with traditional or modern crystal chandeliers.
